Why should I brush my teeth twice a day and get them professionally cleaned every six months?

There is general recommendation that we must go to the dentist every six or twelve months for check-up and cleans. There are two groups of people, the first group commit to the recommendation and make it a lifestyle habit, the second group simply ignore that and every time they visit the dentist they are in some sort of excruciating dental pain, and this become a cycle that never ends.

Today, we are going to look at reasons why that recommendation exists.

Reason 1- to prevent gum disease.

The tooth is surrounded by a gum, and under the gum there is jawbone. The gum forms a tight seal against the tooth to protect the bone. However, this protective seal is disrupted when teeth are not being brushed, the signs are usually reddening and bleeding of the gums which are early signs of gum disease (gingivitis). Below is a picture that shows healthy gums teeth that looks clean.

Brushing teeth twice a day and paying more attention to the gum line will maintain healthy gums. Simply neglecting brushing teeth will cause swelling, bleeding gums and breaks the seal. Once the seal is broken, bacteria and tartar start to build up under the gum. Getting your teeth cleaned at the dentist every size month allows the dentist to use special tools and reach under the gum seal and keep things cleans. The picture below shows unhealthy gums because of not brushing and probably not getting professional cleans.
